How reliable is biometric identification in the real world? And what challenges still stand in the way of making it truly fair and accurate? The 19th Better AI Meetup will dive into biometrics and the role AI plays in improving how we recognize and verify identity.

First up, Christoph Busch from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and one of the most renowned biometric researchers, will explore how demographic differences impact face image quality and the accuracy of biometric systems. He will also introduce ways to mitigate bias and move towards more standardized and fair results.

Jakub Nemček, AI researcher from biometric technology provider Innovatrics, will then focus on real-world challenges such as lighting conditions, aging, make-up, and long-distance image capture. These factors can significantly affect image quality due to distortion and atmospheric turbulence, and he will unpack how AI can help address them.

Agenda:

As usual, all talks and the discussion will be in English. Find out more about the Better_AI_Meetup here.

lorAI is hosting a Research Development Training led by experts from the ADAPT Centre today at KInIT. Eva Power, Monica Lechea and Paulo Soncini are providing researchers with the right tools that are essential for their long-term progress.

These kinds of initiatives are essential for the professional community to share high-level expertise and bridge the gap between world-class research and its management. The professional AI sphere can only grow through such international collaboration.

Supporting these knowledge-sharing activities is a key part of lorAI’s mission to help us grow into a fully recognized European Centre of Excellence.

Are you frustrated with public services and think AI agents can do a better job? Do you feel that the ability to cooperate with AI is quickly becoming a necessary skill? 18th Better AI Meetup will be all about AI agents and how they are being leveraged to improve public wellbeing.

Andrej Danko from ServiceNow is an experienced leader who together with his team introduces AI agents to public sector services all around the world. He will be showing the experience and best practices of governments that already use AI to simplify their processes.

Peter Šebo from PS Digital will talk about which skills are expected by employers in the AI era and how to acquire them to be “AI-mature”. He will show you the practical skills necessary to turn AI outputs into reliable, trustworthy content and how to avoid common risks such as hallucinations.

Join the meetups of AI designers at Better _AI_Meetup, the space for builders and believers in a better world with AI.

In the 17th edition of Better AI Meetup, we will look at robustness and efficiency in large-scale AI. As foundation models become more powerful, the dual challenges of ensuring their security and optimizing their computational footprint have never been more critical.

To tackle these issues head-on, join us for our first-ever joint event. We’re bringing our communities together for a special Czecho-Slovak evening of deep dives and quality networking, featuring Stanislav Fort (AISLE™) and Vladimír Macko (GrizzlyTech) covering both sides of the coin: from the high-level challenge of adversarial attacks right down to the metal with GPU-aware optimization.

Supported by the Slovak Diaspora Project under slovaks.ai, we’re excited to meet the Slovak AI community in person in Prague. While an online option is available (the link to the stream will be sent on November 12th), we hope to see as many of you as possible on-site for the full experience.

Agenda:

The presentations and discussion will be, as always, in English. Learn more about the Better_AI_Meetup here.
